How to Keep Up with Social Media in 2025

It’s impossible to be everywhere online. Use these tips to maximize your social media marketing efforts and reach your audience at the right time.

Stay Current on Social Algorithms

As you likely already know, certain posts end up in your social media feed. If you click on something, a similar news item or product ad is sure to show up there soon. But what you may not yet realize is that each platform, whether Instagram, Facebook, or another one, has an algorithm that favors certain content over others. Knowing the latest algorithms by talking to an expert in the field, like Jason McDonald, can help you stay relevant and get in front of your target audience more easily.

Use Promotional Material Less, Not More

This one might seem counterproductive, but hear us out. Promoting less and entertaining or informing more can help establish you as an authority on your favorite social media network. A lot of popular digital creators space out their sponsored content, for example, so that they amuse or inform followers about things in their niche most of the time and then, say every 1 in 5 photos or videos, promote a brand they’re collaborating with. The audience is more likely to engage if you’re not trying to sell them something every day. That makes sense, right?

Figure Out Where the People of Interest Are

By people of interest, we mean those who you want to know about your product or service. After all, that’s why you’re likely on social media in the first place: to spread the word about what your business has to offer. The issue is, though, that you might be spending significant time each day on a platform where few of your target users are. You know, the people who can benefit from what you’re offering. That means your valuable time is being spent in the wrong places.

To help you find out where they are and spend more time on that particular platform, such as Pinterest, do the obvious and ask your customers what socials they’re on the most. Another way to get insights is to look at your social media stats and see where you get the most click-throughs. That tells you where those who are most interested in your offerings are spending their time online so you can spend more time there, too.

Seize the Moment

What we mean here is to go for it and post that pic or video, even if it’s not absolutely perfect. It doesn’t need to be, and, in fact, sometimes, the most random and unedited content goes viral. There’s not always a lot of sense in what gets attention, but we know that the longer you try to perfect it, the less content you’re putting out there and missing out on opportunities to connect with those who care about what you’re doing — Your target audience. So, if it’s on-brand, post it, even if it’s not perfect!
